Tiny Umbrella Updated to 4.00.49 already!
Developer @notcom has been hard at work updating Tiny Umbrella to work for every SHSH controlled device. Since iPhone 4 has been released, he has already updated it six times!

Make sure you have the most current version. Right now it is 4.00.49. Ironing out all the kinks, including developing for iPhone 4 (which he doesn’t even own), must be a real challenge. In his own words commenting on all the updates, notcom says;
Well that was fun…
Now the tool includes a button to kick out of Recovery Mode, for those who are restoring iPhone 3GS to a lower firmware and end up with error 1015, or a failure to downgrade baseband. After you get error 1015, simply hit the “Kick Device out of Recovery” button to boot into the lower firmware.
The recent update to v4.00.49 is basically a debug build for those who have had issues with device detection. It has worked perfectly for me since the last version, but if you are experiencing difficulties, please follow his instructions to send him a log of your errors so that he may continually improve. Consider Donating.
Heres some more info from a comment I recently posted:
It is important to save the shsh for every firmware version so that you always have the ability to restore to any given firmware. Once on file in Cydia, Saurik’s server will continue to grab relevant hashes for your device, even if you do not upgrade to that version. i.e. If you stay at 4.0 when 4.0.1 comes out, sauriks server will still grab the new shsh’s for you, had you ever had your device registerd by either Jailbreaking or using Umbrella. If you have a 3gs/ipt2g MC, or 3g, jailbroken at 3.1.3 or less, Saurik will grab the files for 4.0 even if you are not Jailbroken on 4.0 or do not even upgrade to 4.0.
The “kick device of recovery” mode loop button will be the best help to those who struggled with irecovery, ireb. after trying to downgrade an got error 1015. This is an expected error when downgrading. It is a “failed to downgrade baseband” error and all you need to do is boot up into the lower firware, keeping the new baseband.
When Downgrading you can retrieve stored shsh’s for restoring from two places; your own computer, or Saurik’s server.
When Downgrading, to ask Saurik for your relevant shsh, add “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” at the end of your etc/hosts file.
To ask Tiny TSS (your own computer) “127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com”.
Restart your computer after you make these administrator level changes to your hosts file.
Then start Tiny Tss for a local restore, and restore to your older firmware
NOTE: There are reports of certain versions of Tiny Umbrella on certain platforms modifying the Hosts File for you, but incorrectly.
To double check and modify the files manually on Mac if needed; use Terminal to show hidden files, enter this code
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
Then hit enter and type this code;
killall Finder
You can now navigate to “etc/hosts” and copy the file to desktop. You can then edit the file and save it. Once you have saved the file to your desktop you can then add it to /etc and “replace” the stock file.
This is how it should look, I have this setup for a request to Saurik for my SHSH:

I have a 3gs jailbroken with pwnage tool on 3.1.2 firmware. It has the old bootrom. Will cydia save 4.0 shsh’s even though I haven’t upgraded too 4.0 yet?
Yes, it should. You can always check using tiny umbrella, in advanced options, jut ask Saurik for the file if it returns a result your good.
Has anyone actually gotten tiny umbrella to detect an iPhone 4?
Installing the “Sprit2pwn” patch will now allow upgrades from a spirit jailbroken 3GS OLD bootrom jailbroken with spirit. Simply add this source to cydia > repo.woowiz.net < and install spirit2pwn so that you may upgrade to custom firmware as if you were jailbroken by another method! All aboard the Jailbreak Train!
Still waiting for a solution for NEW bootrom…
Thanks for the tip!
Will cydia show that there is 4.0 shsh on file like it does for 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 when you launch cydia on the home page?
I have the same question as the previous poster. Please reply?
Yes. It should.
Ok cool. Any idea when Cydia will show that there is 4.0 shsh’s on file. As of now it only
shows for 3.1.2 and 3.1.3. I have created a
custom firmware with pwnage tool for 4.0 but I haven’t installed it yet due to the fact that alot of things aren’t working yet on 4.0 such as infinidock and infiniboard
I wish I knew, but I don’t. Just save them with umbrella, which is now at v4.00.53. That way you know for sure that you have 4.0 taken care of, and you don’t need to restore to 4.0 at all until you wish to.
I just saved my 4.0 SHSH for my 3Gs running 3.1.3, and when I open Cydia it shows my SHSH’s for 3.1.3 and 4.0. Just be aware that you have to go into the advanced options to do that. I don’t understand how they can save my 4.0 SHSH when I’m only running 3.1.3, but they did.
Can someone explain this a little better for me:
When i plug in a device and ask it to save my SHSHs – it contacts apple and downloads a blob for my phone? does it then upload that blob to saurik’s server? And/Or store it locally? when i choose location does it switch from apple to saurik for its blob search? What happens if i search saurik and one isn’t found does it automatically try to get a fresh one from apple?
If i use tiny umbrella on one computer and then attempt to use a totally different computer with a modified host file (that points gs.apple.com to saurik’s server) can i do a successful downgrade after a firmware is locked out?
This to my knowledge has not been stated clearly in any of the tutorials.
Hey Darrell. How did you save your 4.0 shsh’s on cydia? What do you mean go into advanced settings? Did you use tiny umbrella to save your shsh’s? Can you explain a little
better in detail how you did it. My Cydia still only
shows shsh’s for 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 on my 3GS
How do you download and install tiny umbrella to use on a Iphone 3GS running 4.0.1?
