Jailbreak apps i can’t live without

We all have them; apps that we rely so much on that our iDevices become near impossible to use without. Here are some of mine, and why. I’m not including cydia, because that’s a bit too obvious. And, chances are, if you’re reading this then you don’t need me to talk about it :)

SbSettings

This is, for me, the main reason I jailbreak. It provides quick and easy toggles from anywhere. Everything from brightness to wifi. It’s awesome. The fact that it can be themed is also a nice addition.

Winterboard

Complete theming of your idevice. Everything from icons to a background to fonts to sounds. If you can imagine it getting changed then, chances are, winterboard is able to change it. Only the wallpaper can be changed in OS 4. It’s good to see the jailbreak community bettering what apple can do.

Backgrounder

Yet again the jailbreak community is literally years ahead of apple. We’ve had backgrounding for months and months now; they haven’t implemented a full solution yet. Plus, backgrounder works on *all* devices, not just the ipad and 3gs. Backgrounding, for those who don’t know, is simply allowing an app (eg an IM app) to continue running in the background. I use this A LOT. When I’m on msn I like to check my facebook and twitter. Without backgrounder I’d have to log out then log back in every time I wanted to do that. Don’t listen to the lies apple spread about how is seriously affects your battery life. I have the ipt1g and it doesn’t :)

Rotation inhibitor

A photo isn’t really needed for this. Basically it’s and sbsettings toggle to stop rotation. What possible use is there for it I hear you ask. Well, I use it when using an iDevice in bed. Also, lounging by the pool on your side.

These are my must have apps. My iPod without them simply isn’t the same. Check them out; all are available through cydia.

I’m interested; What are your must have apps?

  7. Snappy — Can take a picture immediately from within an app or Springboard without having to load the slow Camera app.

My3G or 3GUnrestrictor — Both of these options do the same thing: trick apps into thinking they’re on WiFi, so you can bypass download size limitations, use Skype, watch high-quality YouTube videos, etc., all over the cell network.

MyWi — Enables tethering (using cell network data on other devices, like a laptop or iPad) via USB, Bluetooth, and WiFi.

Resupported — Allows the use of non-official video out cables. You can use a cheap $10 cable instead of Apple’s $50 cable.

biteSMS — This (or many other similar apps) allows you to respond to SMS messages from within any app, so you don’t have to quit your app and then load up the Messages app.

  28. How safe am I from apple of I use Install0us?

  29. @daniel incredibly

  30. @Daniel Install0us itself is illegal, and JailbreakNews is not suggesting that you use Install0us to download and install pirated applications to your iPod Touch / iPhone. Having said this, many people use Install0us as a ‘try-before-you-buy’ app that allows them to test out a paid app before buying it officially from the app store. Keep in mind many of the developers of applications have put hours, days, weeks, and even months into the development of their product. By buying the app, you are supporting them to continually update it, as well as create new, better applications.

  31. alextran888

How many may I list? I”ll just start listing my favorites until I get cut off:

sbsettings, quick acess to commonly used toggles.

Activator, I use swipe of the status bar to jump directly into my favorite apps or anything else!
Action Menu, cut and paste is lame without this.

Categories: a bit buggy but a must have to keep my springboard icons organized.

Infinidock, add as many icons to my dock as I want and it works well with Categories SB.

iFile, Its like windows explorer for your device.

iPhone explorer, Being able to access files from a desktop.

Proswitcher, switch between open apps shown as palm pre style cards.

Insomnia, I don’t get errors when downloading a video or some big file when I use this.

For me, using a stock iPhone without these functions is frustrating.
