As we reported just earlier this week, MuscleNerd was working on an update for redsn0w that would allow iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and The new iPad (A5/A5X) users to downgrade their firmware if they had their SHSH blobs saved. iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users have the ability to downgrade as low as iOS 5.0.1 and The new iPad users have the ability to downgrade as low at iOS 5.1. A4 users have been able to downgrade since the dawn of time due to a shiny bootrom exploit.

Jailbreakers with devices that pre-date the iPad2 will always be able to downgrade (with SHSH blobs) to previous firmware versions due to geohot’s limera1n exploit, which allows us to bypass the restrictions that Apple places on restores. But until now, that ability has been limited to those older devices (if you have an older device and don’t know how to do that, check the popular tutorial sites or ask in the comments below).

Starting with redsn0w version 0.9.11b1, those with newer devices (iPad2, iPad3, and iPhone4S) can join the downgrade fun too! In a radical departure from previous versions of redsn0w, it now directly supports restoring IPSWs to your device. The first use of this new feature implements a hack that allows A5 downgrades without a bootrom-level exploit.

Today, the new version of redsn0w that MuscleNerd promised has been released, allowing A5 iOS device users to join in on downgrading their firmware. MuscleNerd says that the new downgrading process doesn’t require a bootrom exploit. The version, dubbed redsn0w 0.9.11b1 is compatible with Mac OS X and Windows. If you are running redsn0w 0.9.11b1 in Windows, it is highly recommended that you run the software in administrator mode by right-clicking on the icon and clicking, “Run As Administrator.” The download links for both of the new redsn0w versions can be found below:

redsn0w 0.9.11b1 for Mac OS X

redsn0w 0.9.11b1 for Windows

The new feature allowing A5 iOS device users to downgrade their firmware can be found under Extras>Even More>Restore from the redsn0w navigation menu. The iPhone Dev-Team also tells us that if you don’t have your SHSH blobs saved from the moment you were running the firmware you want to downgrade to, then you won’t be able to downgrade. What this means is that if you want to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and you are running iOS 5.1, then saving your SHSH blobs for iOS 5.0.1 while you’re running iOS 5.1 will be no good. You must have done it while you were running iOS 5.0.1 for it to work. This is because of a security measure Apple seemed to have added after iOS 5.

Another warning that the iPhone Dev-Team makes us aware of is that since the new downgrade measure updates the iOS firmware before downgrading, it will update your baseband. For this reason, if you are relying on an unofficial iPhone unlock, do not use this new downgrade method until a workaround can be found. If you used the SAM technique (now patched by Apple) to unlock your iPhone, then you can use this new downgrading method without losing your unlock.

One last warning from the iPhone Dev-Team is that since the new version of redsn0w is built with a ton of new code, they recommend using the more stable redsn0w 0.9.10b8b unless you plan to be taking advantage of the new downgrading feature. This will give them some time to work out the bugs. There is no reason to run this new version of redsn0w over your existing jailbreak because there are no improvements to the jailbreak in the latest version of redsn0w.

If you are ready to finally have the freedom to downgrade your iPhone 4S, iPad 2, or The new iPad, then you’ll definitely want to download this new redsn0w release. Be sure to thank the iPhone Dev-Team for this amazing news!

We learned from rumours earlier this week that Icy, Ripdevs Cydia alternative that was shut down and made open source after 3.1.x release, is set to make appearance on iPhones and iPads near you. But since we were not sure about the legitimacy of the rumours, we thought to hold back until we could get to the roots of this. And it turns out that folks from Infini-Dev Team have been working hard to bring us back our old Cydia alternative, the fast and light-weight Icy.

Enjoy these screenshots:

Other than Icy, we have also received reports regarding Lima, a completely Mobile Safari based version of Cydia which let’s you browse and install Cydia packages right from Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch. Advantage of this would be no loading times every time you browse to Lima unlike Cydia. We have no ETA’s on when it will be released. Lima was teased running on an iPod touch in the video below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWPFfb4mF6k

As of now, Icy has been completely updated to work on iOS 4.x and has entered beta stage. It is being tested for bugs. And since these are no rumours, you can actually go ahead and download the beta version of Icy from here.

P.S. SSH this anywhere on to your iDevice and install using iFile. Respring and enjoy Icy cold Icy.

Thanks to Infini-Dev Team for their hard work. Do let us know what you think about these 2 projects in the comments below.

The white iPhone 4 is slightly thicker than the black iPhone 4, according to user reports.

A MacRumors forum member writes, “Just picked up the white iPhone 4 and realized it doesn’t fit into my Incase slider case. It appears that Apple has increased the size of the plastic that borders the glass on both sides by about 1mm. “

Ryan Cash of Marketcircle discovered the same…

A colleague of mine just picked up a 16 GB iPhone 4 in white. I was a bit surprised when I picked it up off his desk (I had my black 32 GB in my other hand at the same time) – it immediately felt thicker. We placed them side-by-side on his desk, and sure enough, the white iPhone was a hair thicker.

The wedding of the year is just hours away. Millions upon millions will be watching the Royal wedding live on TV, but what if you’re unlucky enough to be out of the house when the big event takes place? Don’t worry, we at Jailbreaknews have got your back, thanks to YTLive.

With YouTube launching its live streaming service recently, iOS devices were left out in the cold, but with the help of YTLive, iPhones, iPads and iPod touches can also play host to the Royal wedding in all its streaming glory.

YTLive promises to bring streaming goodness to iOS via their web app. The site works by taking any YouTube Live URL and then converting the Flash stream into something iOS can understand. The result is a (relatively) seamless experience and one that’s certainly better than the alternative of, well, nothing. Just hit play and you’re good to go.

If you’re really into Royalty, you could even stream the wedding on your iPad and watch another channel on your TV. Now that’s multitasking!

Filipo Bigarella, the man behind tweaks like Springtomize, CleverPin & FBPhotoSave etc. has come up with yet another tweak for Tweetbot, everyones new favourite twitter client.

We loved the Twitlonger for when we needed to say more than 140 characters to express ourselves. But in an update to Twitter for iPhone last year, support for twitlonger was removed completely. Bigarella has been working on the same idea for the all new shiny & glossy Tweetbot client for iPhone & iPod touch. Pastie for tweetbot adds an extra button to the user-interface while you compose a tweet longer then 140 characters. If triggered, the tweet is sent to pastie and a link is posted with your partial tweet.

Here are some screenshots:

The tweak has been through all the development stages and the beta version is now in hands of the testers. You can download the beta version from Cydia via the iSpazio repo for free.

The white iPhone 4 is also available on Verizon and AT&T website in the US. Internationally, it should be available in local carrier stores and Apple’s authorized resellers.

MacLife reports that according to Brian White, an analyst at Ticonderoga, white iPhone 4’s “mystique and scarcity value” will drive sales of iPhone 4:

The purchase of consumer electronic devices is not always a completely rational decision, and people buy Apple products for many different reasons, including status, aesthetics, functionality, quality and the ‘cool factor.’

In our view, this delay has created a certain mystique and scarcity value around the white iPhone 4 that we believe could drive incremental iPhone 4 purchases in the range of 1 million to 1.5 million units per quarter until the iPhone 5 potentially comes to market in September.

Some industry observers feel that the late launch of white iPhone 4 is another indication that Apple will delay the launch of the next generation iPhone till fall this year.

Xcerion’s iCloud service has just been rebranded to CloudMe, and the company acquired the CloudMe.com domain on April 5, 2011. My source, who is familiar with the company, says that Xcerion has sold the domain to Apple for about $4.5 million.

Recent reports have said that Apple has completed the technical side of its cloud locker and is just finalizing licensing agreements before launching the service. iCloud.com would definitely be a fitting domain for Apple to launch the service on.

We all know and love Winterboard. But it has not been looked after so well ever since the release. That’s when Wyndwarrior thought it was time to change everything again and DreamBoard came into being. It combines perPageHTML and abilities of winterboard and enables themes without the need of a respring.

Wyndwarrior has now announced the DreamStore. A whole new themes store completely dedicated to DreamBoard themes. You can not only purchase paid and free dreamboard themes, but it also provides you with an interface to submit your work on the DreamStore.

DreamStore is not available on Cydia for some reason. Therefore you will have to follow the instructions below to get it working on your iDevice.

NOTE: You will need to have iFile installed on your iDevice for this to work. And the copy of your DreamBoard should not be cracked. If it is, don’t bother reading on.

I’m assuming you already have iFile and DreamBoard installed.

Step 1: Download the .deb file for DreamStore by clicking here.

Step 2: Locate the .deb you downloaded in iFile and tap on it. Next tap Install to install it.

Step 3: Respring you iDevice.

You should now see the icon for DreamBoard on your springboard.

The white iPhone 4 being released tomorrow is susceptible to the limera1n jailbreak, according to tweets by iH8Sn0w.

For future (tomorrow or today) White iPhone 4 users, limera1n is NOT patched and has no difficulty with current jailbreaks.

Also for those wondering, i0n1c’s untether will work for the device as well.

i0n1c’s exploit is iOS based. Since the iPhone 4 runs the SAME iOS, its fine.

Update: We have also discovered by a tweet from Chpwn that redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 is also able to jailbreak the new white iPhone 4.

We will keep you posted once we hear more from the devs on the white iPhone 4 jailbreak.

The application apparently crashed in iOS 5 due to the MKUserLocationBreadCrumb. Developer Will Strafach (Chronic) informed 9to5Mac that this API relates to the iOS maps and location functionality. Just received the first iOS 5.0 crash report. MKUserLocationBreadCrumb sounds interesting. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 5.0 at its WWDC 2011 Developer Conference.
