Filipo Bigarella, the man behind tweaks like Springtomize, CleverPin & FBPhotoSave etc. has come up with yet another tweak for Tweetbot, everyones new favourite twitter client.

We loved the Twitlonger for when we needed to say more than 140 characters to express ourselves. But in an update to Twitter for iPhone last year, support for twitlonger was removed completely. Bigarella has been working on the same idea for the all new shiny & glossy Tweetbot client for iPhone & iPod touch. Pastie for tweetbot adds an extra button to the user-interface while you compose a tweet longer then 140 characters. If triggered, the tweet is sent to pastie and a link is posted with your partial tweet.

Here are some screenshots:

The tweak has been through all the development stages and the beta version is now in hands of the testers. You can download the beta version from Cydia via the iSpazio repo for free.

When Mac OS X 10.6.5 was released, support for iOS printing using AirPrint was mysteriously absent. It’s not clear whether the omission was due to technical problems or patent challenges, but with the final Mac OS X 10.6.5, you could only print from iOS 4.2 to a short list of HP printers. Until someone put some effort into re-enabling it, that is.

Developers Steven Troughton-Smith and Patrick McCarron found a way to get AirPrint to work on Mac shared printers by restoring three files from earlier developer builds of 10.6.5 that had been removed or changed in the final release. AirPrint appeared to work reasonably well in the beta, and many observers surmised that it was removed at the last minute due to a patent troll who had asserted they had invented the technology. The re-enabling process isn’t too hard – just a few Terminal commands and deleting and re-adding your printer – but the guys at Netputing figured out how to do it without using the Apple files in question, which could have raised legal issues. They’re distributing it as AirPrint Hacktivator, and once you’ve got it installed on your Mac, your iOS device will think the shared printer is one of the supported HP printers that support AirPrint.

For Windows printers, there’s a similar process for enabling AirPrint as a service under Vista, 7 and XP. If you decide to try and follow Jaxov’s recipe, note that you need to run the command prompt as administrator in order to start the service.

Jay “saurik” Freeman, the creator of Cydia and Winterboard, gave a talk at an independent TED event in California on the fundamental philosophy behind jailbreaking. Given on Binary Day 10/10/10 at the inaugural TEDxAmericanRiviera in Santa Barbara, his talk compared jailbreakers with people who like to tinker with their cars.

In a riff on the old open-source “hood welded shut” analogy, Jay noted how people like to customize their cars, adding things from air-fresheners and radar detectors to custom rims. He also referenced the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act that states that car manufacturers can’t void car owners’ warranties just by adding third-party accessories. And he explained how phone owners – like car owners – “bond” with their devices, allowing it to “become an external representation of self.” However, as we all know, Apple’s OS “jails” your experience inside apps. As Apple famously says, “there’s an app for that:” their belief is that anything you could want to do with a mobile device can and should be done with an app. Jay explained to his audience why this is not so.

Some of the most useful added functionality that is available to rooted Android devices and jailbroken iPhones, Jay observed, does not come from apps but from tweaks: extensions like custom launchers, dialers, and widgets. In a post on Hacker News, Jay aired his frustration with the argument that Apple should just open up the App Store. “In a future where Apple did exactly what you are asking them to do,” Jay wrote, “almost nothing will have changed: people will still need to jailbreak their phones and developers will still be writing and distributing all of this cool software using Cydia.”

According to saurik, rather than pushing Apple to open up the Store, we should be pushing to get them to open up their device, and to keep Macs open. “Until users are able to install whatever software they wish on the hardware that they own,” he writes, “we will not truly have won back any of our freedom.”

Pix’n Love Rush brings a retro style to the iPhone gaming world. Pix’n Love is packed with tons of content including, 125 levels to advance through and 7 skins to unlock as you play though the game. The fast paced game style pulls you in and keeps you interested. The game starts out fairly slow and speeds up as you advance through the levels. Each game session is timed in five minute intervals during which you have to collect as many positively marked dots as you can. Touching the negatively marked squares subtracts points from you total and as you advance through the game you are introduced to enemies which will take small amounts of your life away as you hit them. You also have projectiles that you can fire at enemies. The game moves pretty fast, testing your reaction time as you move up in levels. One of the main attractions of Pix’n Love Rush was the visual style. It’s very attractive to the eyes and is one of the main features of the game that kept us coming back again and again. The games latest update brings support for Apple’s game center allowing you to share scores with your friends. The game is not all perfect though. Small buttons that are positioned rather close to the edge of the screen make the game hard to play at times. Another small gripe was not being able to play in the orientation you like. The game only supports one landscape orientation, which makes it awkward to play when you have headphones plugged in. Other than that there isn’t much wrong with this app. The great music goes along with the art perfectly, and makes for a ton of entertainment.

Pros:

-Amazing art style
-Retina display support
-Great music
-Tons of content to keep you busy

Cons:

-Small Controls
-Locked Orientation

Price: $.99

Final Verdict: 4/5

I recently downloaded the VLC Remote app from the Apple App store, I opened it up and there was no set up required (if you already have the VLC application installed on your computer). So I opened up the VLC application on my computer and my iPod Touch, both have to be connected to the same wi-fi network. So I tried it out and it stayed connected to my computer the whole time and had a fast response time to the controls I inputted from my iPod Touch to my computer.
Bottom Line:
I personally think it worked better than the “Remote” App by Apple. It stayed connected the whole time and had a fast response time from when I inputted the controls from my iPod sent to my computer. Also has a very easy to use interface.

“This is a testament to the sheer power of iOS devices as up until now, Unreal Engine 3 has typically been used to create high-end gaming experiences on game consoles and computers,” said Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps. “And we’re not just keeping it to ourselves. We’re putting Unreal Engine 3 technology into the hands of game developers all over the world, and we can’t wait to see the apps they make next.”

A small team of Epic’s programmers, artists and testers created “Epic Citadel” in just eight weeks of development time. Unreal Engine 3 is scalable yet packed with the same tools hundreds of thousands of users work with to create games, simulations and animated content. Features include:

Amazing visuals. “Epic Citadel” pushes the envelope for stunning visuals on iOS devices. Through the latest advances in Unreal Engine 3 technology, the application delivers unrivaled graphics and special effects that immerse players in the kingdom’s grounds.

Bump offset mapping. Also known as parallax mapping or relief mapping, bump offset mapping enhances the visual appearance of stone walls and rocks providing intricate textures.

Normal mapped architecture. Brings stunning detail to bricks and ground surfaces within the environment.

Texture blending with painted weight maps. Refines nuances on roads and terrain, making them rich and lifelike.

Global illumination. Unreal Engine 3’s built-in global illumination system, Unreal Lightmass, provides realistic lighting and shadows with minimal development resources.

Dynamic specular lighting with texture masks. Helps create authentic cobblestone roads and vivid reflective marble surfaces, while lens flares and light coronas add dramatic emphasis when panning across light sources.

Real-time reflections and animation. Environment mapping enables real-time reflections on objects such as the statue inside the cathedral. Dynamic movements of trees and banners are made possible through the use of vertex deformation and skeletal animation.

The iPhone 4, so many different emotions come to mind when you hear the name of that device no? The complaints of signal issues, proximity sensors, everything right? For me this is easily the best device I’ve ever owned.

I remember when the iPhone 3G came out, and Apple presented their commercial for it, and the words “The only phone to be the iPhone, the new iPhone..3G.” To me that’s the only true device that can beat the iPhone, the iPhone that follows it. You can call me a fanboy but when you get down to it, it’s true. Android is a very worthy competitor but you didn’t come hear to hear about that OS did you? Hit the jump for the full review!

Design:

Apple has completely redesigned the iPhone 4, and it’s either a love or hate it thing. My opinion? Love it. The phone feels more sturdy, and durable (same thing I loved about the original iPhone). The last two, 3G and 3GS, felt nice, but didn’t have that build, that “not so cheap” feel to it.

The iPhone 4 is now more rectangular, and not curved like modern Apple products, like the magic mouse. The back and front are both glass made from aluminosilicate glass, basically the glass that’s used in the windshields of helicopters, and high-speed trains. It’s strengthened to be 20 times stiffer, and 30 times harder than plastic. The glass is “more scratch resistant than ever”. I haven’t dropped it yet *knock on wood* so when I do, I’ll let you know how it did.

Display:

Probably one of the biggest, if not the biggest, and most noticeable change on the new iPhone 4 is the display. I am amazed at how clear and crisp the screen is. My guess for the new iPhone was that they were going to go to about 3.7’ – 4’ for their displays but that would only require developers to change graphics and proportions of their games/apps/etc..

I don’t think my camera can capture the beautiful display and the ppi (pixels per inch) but let me just say it’s amazing and take my word for it, ok?

Camera

The camera was upped from 3 megapixels on the 3GS to 5 megapixels and you can notice a difference. Now when we talk about cameras, people automatically want better pixels, but as Steve made very clear through the regular presentations we always get, megapixels doesn’t determine the quality of the camera but other things such as photons, lighting, even with this iPhone having 5 megapixels, it still takes better picture than a Droid X which has a 8 megapixel camera.

The camera also brought forth 720p HD video recording. The quality is amazing. It’s going to take some getting used to, but it is amazing. Plus with the built in LED flash on the back, pictures and HD video recording is a walk in the park for the iPhone 4.

Battery Life

Quite simply the biggest reason for me to upgrade to the iPhone 4 from a 3GS was the battery life. Apple tried to make the 3GS sound like a powerhouse and while it was a big upgrade from the 3G or original iPhone the battery life was simply a no-go I honestly couldn’t get more than 6 hours of using it, let alone 7-8 of standby.

With the iPhone 4 I can easily last the whole day on one charge doing way more than I could on my 3GS, and I think that easily has to do with the A4 chip inside the device, which maximizes performance while not affecting the battery life too much.

Operating System: iOS 4

A lovely upgrade to the newly branded iPhone OS operating system, Apple has done some major revisions to this huge upgrade for the iPhone. It’s brought forth multitasking, home screen wallpapers, spell check, new widgets, and high quality, glossy-like icons, plus MUCH MUCH MUCH more.

To make it short and simple, it’s easily the most advanced Operating System in the mobile world.

FaceTime

Now to most, it’s nothing new, that’s basically to anyone living in the Europe/Asia, or tech bloggers. We’ve known that video calling has been alive for a while now but no one has brought it to the table quit like Apple has, with the simple, easy to get to UI, I mean what’s not to appreciate about it?

Sure, you have to have an iPhone 4 to use and be on Wi-Fi, but do this before you complain, download Fring! From the App Store and try a video call and lemme know how well that works out for you. Now imagine all 3.4 million iPhone 4 using FaceTime over 3G and how much that would strain AT&T’s network, or any network for that matter! Plus being on Wi-Fi brings crisp, and clear video calling, and come to think in this day and age where is there not free Wi-Fi?

Stainless Steel Band/Antennagate

Now who doesn’t have a video up about the bad reception problems? Gizmodo has one, nearly all iPhone youtubers, as for me? I can produce the problem but I have yet to have it affect one of my calls or data, I do have a bumper on it, but even without it I don’t have an issue.

People get mad because you have to put a case on it, but I mean why wouldn’t you want a case on a phone you spent $200-$500 on? I always have cases on my iPhone, so that problem never affected me but apparently for some it’s like the world ending, put a case on and shut up.

Summary

To sum my review up, I simply love the phone, the build quality is awesome along with the retina display simply makes it awesome hardware wise, then you get iOS 4 which is the other component to this phone and that’s just like the perfect tag team partner in this wrestling match. I don’t think a phone will be able to match it hardware wise, sure the Droid X is there, but the iPhone still succeeds to me in everything. If your hesitant to buy this phone, don’t, buy it!
