Hood, The old SBSettings like tweak goes open-source.
Of course you remember Ripdev! And if you do then you definitely know Hood. The neat little SBSettings like tweak from the OS 2.x days. And for those who don’t, Ripdev is the company that is associated with the development of Installer, which is arguably the first iPhone app store, much before Apple’s official iPhone AppStore came about and before Cydia took over as the leading jailbreak app store. Well history apart.
We’ve learned from a tweet from Ripdev saying Hood was made open-source. Ripdev tweeted :
Well for some of the folks this might be an exciting news as they might have found something to work on and carry forward while for others this may just be a regular post. For now all we can say is that we miss Ripdev.
What packages from Ripdev have you used and think should be porte to latest iOS firmwares? Leave your answers in the comments.

This is great news for those of you with jailbroken Apple TV’s. Since the release of our jailbreak, there hasn’t really been much going on in terms of new software to utilize. The folks behind XBMC (formerly “Xbox Media Center”) have managed to bring their software to the Apple TV 2. This means you can decode that awesome 1080p HD content, and utilize the hardware inside your little box.
Due to the nature of developing for Apple TV, this isn’t entirely an easy hack for the beginners. You will be required to use terminal commands, but if your familiar with this it should be a breeze.
Instructions are located here, which should help you through it all.
UPATE: also available for iPhone/iPad by adding this source to Cydia and installing

New Cydia “Manage Account” Feature Finds Your Purchases
Jay “saurik” Freeman has been hard at work on what he calls a “full package index:” a centralized database of Cydia packages. One of the first features based on this fundamental restructuring is now live on Cydia’s homepage: the new “Manage Account” option. Finally, there’s a simple way to determine what you’ve purchased on the Cydia Store, giving you a quick and easy way to re-install your apps, tweaks, and themes after a restore.
There are some caveats to be aware of. First off, if you had originally purchased your package through RockYourPhone, it may or may not show up in your “Installable Purchases” list unless you’ve explicitly linked the two accounts. As saurik says, he “tried very hard to automatically connect together accounts ‘as if by magic’ sometimes you will need to manually associate your Rock account.” There’s buttons on all apps that were on Rock enabling this, but if you haven’t taken the opportunity to do so yet, you can use the Transfer Rock Licenses page on Cydia to link your accounts.
Also, if you’re one of the many humans in the 21st century who has both a Facebook and a Google account, be aware that you may have used one or the other – or both – to log into Cydia in the past. Remember that Cydia only uses Amazon and PayPal accounts for payment authorization, not login. And furthermore, any item that uses its own payment system outside of Cydia won’t show up on the list, even though it may be marked “Package Already Purchased” on its product page.
This is all part of a revamping of Cydia that will be ongoing. With the proliferation of packages, the default repositories have inevitably gotten a lot of corrupt or damaged package files. One positive side effect of the new index is that those files have gotten weeded out. Jay’s continuing his efforts to make a Cydia that works for everybody, and if you appreciate what he’s done, you might consider making a donation on PayPal.

The Confusion About SHAtter Leak
The drama surrounding the SHAtter exploit continues. A Dutch dev threatened to leak the code last week, and even though that threat was thought to have subsided, someone apparently did go ahead and leak SHAtter Wednesday. This led to a Twitter fight between p0sixninja and MuscleNerd, whom p0six had accused of being the leaker. Musclenerd denies this, but according to p0sixninja, SHAtter has been burned.
The SHAtter exploit was originally developed by onetime Chronic-Dev hacker pod2g. A weakness in the S5L8930 bootrom of A4-based devices (iPhone 4, iPad, Apple TV 2G, iPod touch 4G). It was originally intended for the 10.10.10 (10th October 2010) release of greenpois0n before Geohot came out of nowhere with the limera1n jailbreak for all iOS devices. SHAtter was held in reserve for a future jailbreak to conserve exploits in the ongoing cat-and-mouse game with Apple.
At this point, all we know for sure is that for unknown reasons, the code was potentially released by an unknown party Wednesday. It’s unclear at this time if this was the genuine SHAtter or a fake designed to throw Apple off the scent, as people who claim to have the leaked version are reporting trouble getting it to compile. However, Apple should be able to figure out pretty quickly if it is genuine or not. Meanwhile, in a furious back-and-forth on Twitter (blowing up the phones of all their followers all Wednesday afternoon), p0sixninja accused MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team of being responsible for leaking the exploit. MuscleNerd rejected the accusation, explaining that it would make no sense for him to do so as he will need to be able to jailbreak the iPhone 5 in order to unlock it. MuscleNerd also noted that there were 15 to 20 others in the room when pod2g showed his SHAtter code for the first time, so the pool of suspects is large.
If SHAtter is truly burned, it’s potentially not catastrophic, as p0sixninja says another “untether bootrom exploit” is supposedly on the way. However, if we’ve lost a valuable tool due to some personal drama among devs, it’s a sad statement about the jailbreaking community.

Theme Of The Week: Windows Phone 7 HD, BlueBird HD
Li-ion
An impressive Windows 7 theme for your iPhone, in HD. We are really only a short while into the release of WP7 from Microsoft, and Li-ion has already managed to bring us some retina eye candy. for the iDevice. (Bring on the “Why would I want my iPhone to look like a Windows Phone…”)
Li-ion suggests using Multifl0w, as the built-in switcher doesnt quite cut it. You can use Activator to change the button mapping for double-pressing home to easily replace it all together.
The theme requires the use of Summberboard mode, which can cause a lot of memory usage, but if your on an iPhone 4, clearly you can afford some extra memory to enjoy this theme.
Li-ion is continuing to work on new icons, layouts, and UISounds, so keep your eyes peeled on this one.
