EXCLUSIVE: Icy Ready to Launch for iOS 4.x this week

We learned from rumours earlier this week that Icy, Ripdevs Cydia alternative that was shut down and made open source after 3.1.x release, is set to make appearance on iPhones and iPads near you. But since we were not sure about the legitimacy of the rumours, we thought to hold back until we could get to the roots of this. And it turns out that folks from Infini-Dev Team have been working hard to bring us back our old Cydia alternative, the fast and light-weight Icy.

Enjoy these screenshots:

Other than Icy, we have also received reports regarding Lima, a completely Mobile Safari based version of Cydia which let’s you browse and install Cydia packages right from Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch. Advantage of this would be no loading times every time you browse to Lima unlike Cydia. We have no ETA’s on when it will be released. Lima was teased running on an iPod touch in the video below:

As of now, Icy has been completely updated to work on iOS 4.x and has entered beta stage. It is being tested for bugs. And since these are no rumours, you can actually go ahead and download the beta version of Icy from here.

P.S. SSH this anywhere on to your iDevice and install using iFile. Respring and enjoy Icy cold Icy.

Thanks to Infini-Dev Team for their hard work. Do let us know what you think about these 2 projects in the comments below.

Pastiebot: A Twitlonger Replacement for Tweetbot

Filipo Bigarella, the man behind tweaks like Springtomize, CleverPin & FBPhotoSave etc. has come up with yet another tweak for Tweetbot, everyones new favourite twitter client.

We loved the Twitlonger for when we needed to say more than 140 characters to express ourselves. But in an update to Twitter for iPhone last year, support for twitlonger was removed completely. Bigarella has been working on the same idea for the all new shiny & glossy  Tweetbot client for iPhone & iPod touch. Pastie for tweetbot adds an extra button to the user-interface while you compose a tweet longer then 140 characters. If triggered, the tweet is sent to pastie and a link is posted with your partial tweet.

Here are some screenshots:

The tweak has been through all the development stages and the beta version is now in hands of the testers. You can download the beta version from Cydia via the iSpazio repo for free.

DreamStore: DreamBoard Themes Store Now Available

We all know and love Winterboard. But it has not been looked after so well ever since the release. That’s when Wyndwarrior thought it was time to change everything again and DreamBoard came into being. It combines perPageHTML and abilities of winterboard and enables themes without the need of a respring.

Wyndwarrior has now announced the DreamStore. A whole new themes store completely dedicated to DreamBoard themes. You can not only purchase paid and free dreamboard themes, but it also provides you with an interface to submit your work on the DreamStore.

DreamStore is not available on Cydia for some reason. Therefore you will have to follow the instructions below to get it working on your iDevice.

NOTE: You will need to have iFile installed on your iDevice for this to work. And the copy of your DreamBoard should not be cracked. If it is, don’t bother reading on.

I’m assuming you already have iFile and DreamBoard installed.

Step 1: Download the .deb file for DreamStore by clicking here.

Step 2: Locate the .deb you downloaded in iFile and tap on it. Next tap Install to install it.

Step 3: Respring you iDevice.

You should now see the icon for DreamBoard on your springboard.

White iPhone 4 Vulnerable to Limera1n & Redsn0w [updated]

The white iPhone 4 being released tomorrow is susceptible to the limera1n jailbreak, according to tweets by iH8Sn0w.

For future (tomorrow or today) White iPhone 4 users, limera1n is NOT patched and has no difficulty with current jailbreaks.

Also for those wondering, i0n1c’s untether will work for the device as well.

i0n1c’s exploit is iOS based. Since the iPhone 4 runs the SAME iOS, its fine.

Update: We have also discovered by a tweet from Chpwn that redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 is also able to jailbreak the new white iPhone 4.

We will keep you posted once we hear more from the devs on the white iPhone 4 jailbreak.

Garageband for iPad ported to iPhone 4 [video]

The folks at 9to5Mac received a video and some screenshots of Garageband for iPad running on the iPhone 4 from one of their readers. It was further told that Garageband for iPad was run on iPhone 4 using a hack that requires a jailbroken device. The process involves transferring the GarageBand application with changed metadata to an iPhone 4 via OpenSSH.

This obviously in’t the perfect solution as Garageband isn’t formatted for a slightly lower iPhone 4 resolution but it works well enough. Here are some of the screenshots:

Hood, The old SBSettings like tweak goes open-source.

Of course you remember Ripdev! And if you do then you  definitely know Hood. The  neat little SBSettings like tweak from the OS 2.x days. And for those who don’t, Ripdev is the company that is associated with the development of Installer, which is arguably the first iPhone app store, much before Apple’s official iPhone AppStore came about and before Cydia took over as the leading jailbreak app store. Well history apart.

We’ve learned from a tweet from Ripdev saying Hood was made open-source. Ripdev tweeted :

Well for some of the folks this might be an exciting news as they might have found something to work on and carry forward while for others this may just be a regular post. For now all we can say is that we miss Ripdev.

What packages from Ripdev have you used and think should be porte to latest iOS firmwares? Leave your answers in the comments.
