White iPhone 4 Vulnerable to Limera1n & Redsn0w [updated]
The white iPhone 4 being released tomorrow is susceptible to the limera1n jailbreak, according to tweets by iH8Sn0w.
For future (tomorrow or today) White iPhone 4 users, limera1n is NOT patched and has no difficulty with current jailbreaks.
Also for those wondering, i0n1c’s untether will work for the device as well.
i0n1c’s exploit is iOS based. Since the iPhone 4 runs the SAME iOS, its fine.
Update: We have also discovered by a tweet from Chpwn that redsn0w 0.9.6rc9 is also able to jailbreak the new white iPhone 4.

The application apparently crashed in iOS 5 due to the MKUserLocationBreadCrumb. Developer Will Strafach (Chronic) informed 9to5Mac that this API relates to the iOS maps and location functionality. The much awaited iPhone 4 White is set to make appearance tomorrow. Apple today announced that the white iPhone 4 will be available beginning tomorrow. White iPhone 4 models will be available from Apple’s online store, at Apple’s retail stores, AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers.
“The white iPhone 4 has finally arrived and it’s beautiful,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we’ve worked to get every detail right.”
White models of iPhone 4 will be available in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Macau, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and the US, beginning Thursday, April 28 and in many more countries around the world soon.

The folks at 9to5Mac received a video and some screenshots of Garageband for iPad running on the iPhone 4 from one of their readers. It was further told that Garageband for iPad was run on iPhone 4 using a hack that requires a jailbroken device. The process involves transferring the GarageBand application with changed metadata to an iPhone 4 via OpenSSH.

This obviously in’t the perfect solution as Garageband isn’t formatted for a slightly lower iPhone 4 resolution but it works well enough. Here are some of the screenshots:

As you may already know that iPhone 4 White is rumoured to officially release tomorrow, some retailers have already started to push the stock out to customers. Folks behind the iSpazio italian Apple blog have already managed to get their hands on the official white iPhone 4 from the Hutchison 3G store.
You can see the redesigned proximity sensor on the white iPhone 4. The device is being released almost after a delay of 10 months. The cause of which as described by Apple was the white paint that not only messed the camera but also leaked light from certain spots.
We haven’t heard a word from Apple about the release of the much awaited white iPhone 4 but it seems people from all around the world have started to fetch their white iPhones. Here’s the unboxing video from iSpazio:

The drama surrounding the SHAtter exploit continues. A Dutch dev threatened to leak the code last week, and even though that threat was thought to have subsided, someone apparently did go ahead and leak SHAtter Wednesday. This led to a Twitter fight between p0sixninja and MuscleNerd, whom p0six had accused of being the leaker. Musclenerd denies this, but according to p0sixninja, SHAtter has been burned.
The SHAtter exploit was originally developed by onetime Chronic-Dev hacker pod2g. A weakness in the S5L8930 bootrom of A4-based devices (iPhone 4, iPad, Apple TV 2G, iPod touch 4G). It was originally intended for the 10.10.10 (10th October 2010) release of greenpois0n before Geohot came out of nowhere with the limera1n jailbreak for all iOS devices. SHAtter was held in reserve for a future jailbreak to conserve exploits in the ongoing cat-and-mouse game with Apple.
At this point, all we know for sure is that for unknown reasons, the code was potentially released by an unknown party Wednesday. It’s unclear at this time if this was the genuine SHAtter or a fake designed to throw Apple off the scent, as people who claim to have the leaked version are reporting trouble getting it to compile. However, Apple should be able to figure out pretty quickly if it is genuine or not. Meanwhile, in a furious back-and-forth on Twitter (blowing up the phones of all their followers all Wednesday afternoon), p0sixninja accused MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team of being responsible for leaking the exploit. MuscleNerd rejected the accusation, explaining that it would make no sense for him to do so as he will need to be able to jailbreak the iPhone 5 in order to unlock it. MuscleNerd also noted that there were 15 to 20 others in the room when pod2g showed his SHAtter code for the first time, so the pool of suspects is large.
If SHAtter is truly burned, it’s potentially not catastrophic, as p0sixninja says another “untether bootrom exploit” is supposedly on the way. However, if we’ve lost a valuable tool due to some personal drama among devs, it’s a sad statement about the jailbreaking community.
