EXCLUSIVE: Icy Ready to Launch for iOS 4.x this week
We learned from rumours earlier this week that Icy, Ripdevs Cydia alternative that was shut down and made open source after 3.1.x release, is set to make appearance on iPhones and iPads near you. But since we were not sure about the legitimacy of the rumours, we thought to hold back until we could get to the roots of this. And it turns out that folks from Infini-Dev Team have been working hard to bring us back our old Cydia alternative, the fast and light-weight Icy.
Enjoy these screenshots:
Other than Icy, we have also received reports regarding Lima, a completely Mobile Safari based version of Cydia which let’s you browse and install Cydia packages right from Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch. Advantage of this would be no loading times every time you browse to Lima unlike Cydia. We have no ETA’s on when it will be released. Lima was teased running on an iPod touch in the video below:

As of now, Icy has been completely updated to work on iOS 4.x and has entered beta stage. It is being tested for bugs. And since these are no rumours, you can actually go ahead and download the beta version of Icy from here.
P.S. SSH this anywhere on to your iDevice and install using iFile. Respring and enjoy Icy cold Icy.
Thanks to Infini-Dev Team for their hard work. Do let us know what you think about these 2 projects in the comments below.

Read MoreWarning: ultrasn0w May Break GPS on Baseband 6.15.00
The Dev-Team is warning about a potential issue with ultrasn0w for iOS 4.2.1 on iPhones with the 06.15.00 baseband. An increasing number of users with that version of the baseband software are reportedly losing GPS functionality when they unlock their device. The blog post says they are looking for the root cause but haven’t found it yet, and notes that it’s not a problem for all or even most users with that baseband. Still, to be on the safe side, they’re suggesting people should just not expect GPS to work if they want to unlock iPhones with the 06.15.00 baseband using ultrasn0w:
|
Update #5: Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00. Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you’ll lose GPS at 06.15.00. As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section. (Update: early indications are that while 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it will require some further hacks. But please still be conservative and assume you will lose GPS at 06.15, in case the hacks don’t work). |

Hacktivate AirPrint on Mac
When Mac OS X 10.6.5 was released, support for iOS printing using AirPrint was mysteriously absent. It’s not clear whether the omission was due to technical problems or patent challenges, but with the final Mac OS X 10.6.5, you could only print from iOS 4.2 to a short list of HP printers. Until someone put some effort into re-enabling it, that is.
Developers Steven Troughton-Smith and Patrick McCarron found a way to get AirPrint to work on Mac shared printers by restoring three files from earlier developer builds of 10.6.5 that had been removed or changed in the final release. AirPrint appeared to work reasonably well in the beta, and many observers surmised that it was removed at the last minute due to a patent troll who had asserted they had invented the technology. The re-enabling process isn’t too hard – just a few Terminal commands and deleting and re-adding your printer – but the guys at Netputing figured out how to do it without using the Apple files in question, which could have raised legal issues. They’re distributing it as AirPrint Hacktivator, and once you’ve got it installed on your Mac, your iOS device will think the shared printer is one of the supported HP printers that support AirPrint.
For Windows printers, there’s a similar process for enabling AirPrint as a service under Vista, 7 and XP. If you decide to try and follow Jaxov’s recipe, note that you need to run the command prompt as administrator in order to start the service.

AirVideoEnabler Streams Any iOS Video
When Apple announced that AirPlay would be a new feature included in the iOS 4.2 update, many people were eager for its release. However, some were disappointed to learn that only first party apps would be able to stream video. Strangely, Safari is not supported, so internet streaming is not yet possible. AirPlay is capable of streaming video from any app, but Apple chose not to enable it. Fortunately, there’s a jailbreak for that.
Thanks to Erica Sadun over at TUAW, video can now be streamed from any jailbroken iOS 4.2 device using the AirVideoEnabler patch. A single line of code was all that was necessary to enable this feature. With the patch installed, any app can stream video to an Apple TV. For now, the patch is free through Cydia. Streaming to other devices such as laptops, however, is not yet possible at this point.
Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to use this patch right away. Because iOS 4.2 is still a tethered jailbreak for newer devices, most users should probably wait until an untethered jailbreak is made available. Once again, jailbreakers will have to be patient while developers work to fix this problem.
As soon as the latest jailbreak is available, however, this will be the first thing that I download. Hopefully, Apple will come to its senses and enable it themselves so everyone can get in on all the streaming fun. I can’t wait to watch the Daily Show on my Apple TV using Skyfire with the AirVideoEnabler patch installed.

We should start by saying, this isn’t recommended for everyone. This isn’t as straight forward as your average Redsn0w jailbreak
