We learned from rumours earlier this week that Icy, Ripdevs Cydia alternative that was shut down and made open source after 3.1.x release, is set to make appearance on iPhones and iPads near you. But since we were not sure about the legitimacy of the rumours, we thought to hold back until we could get to the roots of this. And it turns out that folks from Infini-Dev Team have been working hard to bring us back our old Cydia alternative, the fast and light-weight Icy.

Enjoy these screenshots:

Other than Icy, we have also received reports regarding Lima, a completely Mobile Safari based version of Cydia which let’s you browse and install Cydia packages right from Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch. Advantage of this would be no loading times every time you browse to Lima unlike Cydia. We have no ETA’s on when it will be released. Lima was teased running on an iPod touch in the video below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWPFfb4mF6k

As of now, Icy has been completely updated to work on iOS 4.x and has entered beta stage. It is being tested for bugs. And since these are no rumours, you can actually go ahead and download the beta version of Icy from here.

P.S. SSH this anywhere on to your iDevice and install using iFile. Respring and enjoy Icy cold Icy.

Thanks to Infini-Dev Team for their hard work. Do let us know what you think about these 2 projects in the comments below.

The wedding of the year is just hours away. Millions upon millions will be watching the Royal wedding live on TV, but what if you’re unlucky enough to be out of the house when the big event takes place? Don’t worry, we at Jailbreaknews have got your back, thanks to YTLive.

With YouTube launching its live streaming service recently, iOS devices were left out in the cold, but with the help of YTLive, iPhones, iPads and iPod touches can also play host to the Royal wedding in all its streaming glory.

YTLive promises to bring streaming goodness to iOS via their web app. The site works by taking any YouTube Live URL and then converting the Flash stream into something iOS can understand. The result is a (relatively) seamless experience and one that’s certainly better than the alternative of, well, nothing. Just hit play and you’re good to go.

If you’re really into Royalty, you could even stream the wedding on your iPad and watch another channel on your TV. Now that’s multitasking!

We all know and love Winterboard. But it has not been looked after so well ever since the release. That’s when Wyndwarrior thought it was time to change everything again and DreamBoard came into being. It combines perPageHTML and abilities of winterboard and enables themes without the need of a respring.

Wyndwarrior has now announced the DreamStore. A whole new themes store completely dedicated to DreamBoard themes. You can not only purchase paid and free dreamboard themes, but it also provides you with an interface to submit your work on the DreamStore.

DreamStore is not available on Cydia for some reason. Therefore you will have to follow the instructions below to get it working on your iDevice.

NOTE: You will need to have iFile installed on your iDevice for this to work. And the copy of your DreamBoard should not be cracked. If it is, don’t bother reading on.

I’m assuming you already have iFile and DreamBoard installed.

Step 1: Download the .deb file for DreamStore by clicking here.

Step 2: Locate the .deb you downloaded in iFile and tap on it. Next tap Install to install it.

Step 3: Respring you iDevice.

You should now see the icon for DreamBoard on your springboard.

In the recent installment of iOS 4.1, it appears that there may be a small glitch in the firmware relating to icons. On your home-screen icons can disappear leaving only the title of the Application. While scrolling through various pages on the device, a user may experience an issues where Icons begin to disappear.

For me I would flick through my pages of apps and every time I would flick to a new page of apps a random app’s icon on that page would be missing.

After all is said and done, a simple restore will correct the problem. Fire up iTunes and let it do it’s business. If anyone can get the problem to repeat, or correct it without restoring, drop us a note.

Microsoft has finally announced that starting today Hotmail will support push email, calendar and contacts with Exchange ActiveSync (EAS).

Hotmail users will be able to sync their email, calendar, and contacts to their iPhone using Exchange ActiveSync. So any changes made on the iPhone will be reflected on the web interface, and vice versa.

Dick Craddock from Windows Live Blog explained this briefly :

Hotmail is making it easier for you to stay up-to-date and be productive on your phone. Starting today, you can get your email, calendar, and contacts pushed automatically to your phone using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). EAS keeps everything in sync between your phone and Hotmail, so whatever you do on your phone, like delete an email, add an appointment, or update one of your contacts with a new number, will also be reflected on the web, and vice-versa. If you use an email client on your PC that already syncs with Hotmail, like Outlook with the Outlook Connector or Windows Live Mail, what you do on your phone will show up there as well, delivering a seamless experience for managing your stuff between your PC email client, your browser, and your phone.

These are instructions on how to setup push Hotmail using ActiveSync on your iPhone or iPod touch. After doing this you will automatically be notified when a new email arrives rather then waiting for a scheduled check.

Step one :

After the 4.0.1 jailbreak release, Apple pushed out iOS 4.0.2 to patch the exploit which helped iOS 4.0.1 jailbreak. Dev-Team announced not to update to the latest firmware release. For some reason, some people still got updated one way or the other and were stuck with no jailbreak & unlock.

Well it ends here. The folks at PwnMyI posted a guide on how to downgrade your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) from iOS 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 without having SHSH blobs saved for iOS 4.0.1. This will of course allow you to jailbreak and unlock your new iPhone with JailbreakMe, and patch it with PDF Patch so that you are safe from PDF vulnerability in iOS 4.0.1.

Today I found something that the iPhone Devs told me “impossible”. I also spoke with iH8Snow, telling me that this sounds impossible. He also mentioned to me and one of my beta testers that this is possible if you allowed Cydia to store your SHSH/Blobs since Cydia will cache your firmware along the way.

Well, I’m pretty sure I proved them wrong.

So the story is that I have possession of clean (never before jailbroken) iDevices, and I managed to downgrade one of them and upgrade one of them to iOS 4.0.

The step by step instructions for downgrading new iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS without having SHSH blobs saved are posted below. Follow them at your own risk. I am not responsible for any loss of data, or malfunction of your iPhone.

Step 1: Download iOS 4.0.1 ipsw.

Step 2: Extract it with WinRAR or WinZip to a folder on the desktop. You may need to rename the firmware file from .ipsw to .zip to do this.

Step 3: Open the buildmanifest.plist with the Notepad if you are on Windows, or TextWrangler if you are on Mac.

Search and replace all – 8A306 with 8A400. Save. Repeat the same with the file restore.plist.

Step 4: Download iOS 4.0.2 ipsw and open this with WinRAR or WinZip.

Note: Do not extract it. Just open it and leave it open. You must use this exact file and not create a new one. If you have to create a new one for reasons like you are on OS X, then use zip command line not explorer or finder to make the zip. I will assume you are using the original file opened in WinRAR for the rest of this guide.

Step 5: Take all the files from iOS 4.0.1and drag them over to the iOS 4.0.2 zip archive that you have open.

Step 6: Delete all the .dmg files that have 002 at the end, leaving only the 001 files left.

Step 7: Save the archive, and rename it back to .ipsw if you changed the name to get WinRAR/WinZip to open it.

Step 9: Put the device in DFU by following the steps below:

Connect your iPhone to your computer.

Turn iPhone off.

Start iTunes.

Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds or so.

Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until your computer recognizes a new USB device.

iTunes will now recognize your iPhone.

Note: Your iPhone screen at this time should be blank (black in color), if not, then you are most likely in Recovery Mode, not DFU mode.

Step 10: Now simply open iTunes and restore the firmware you changed.

This is it, you should now be able to jailbreak and unlock your device on iOS 4.0.1 with JailbreakMe.

You can follow JailbreakNews on twitter or follow the author here.

If your reading the title of this guide and asking yourself “What is an old bootrom”, please, go back to what you were doing and relax until the next jailbreak is released. If you however do understand what’s going on here with the old bootrom jailbreaks, continue reading.

RedmondPie had posted a great guide on getting PwnageTool to create a custom IPSW for iOS 4.0.2 which allows you to jailbreak. IF for some reason you cannot downgrade and are stuck on 4.0.2, this guide will come in handy.

Let’s begin:

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes.

Step 2: Now start iTunes and sync your iPhone with your PC or Mac so that it backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.

Step 3: Download PwnageTool (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=63NSJXYL) and the original iOS 4.0.2 for your version of iPhone (download link given below). Move all these files to your desktop.

Step 4: Start PwnageTool and select your device:

Step 5: PwnageTool will now automatically detect the correct firmware for your device as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 6: Click on “No” when PwnageTool asks you “Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?”:

Clicking on “Yes” will update your baseband to the latest version. Click on “Yes” only if you are on an officially supported carrier like AT&T.

Step 7: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.

The following “ihaz Success” screen will confirm that the requested .ipsw file has been created successfully.

Step 8: Once the .ipsw file has been created, you will now have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 4.0.2 that you just cooked using PwnageTool for your iPhone. Click on your phone icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.0.2 file. Select the required custom .ipsw file and click on “Open”.

Step 9: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 4.0.2 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully jailbroken iPhone running on iOS 4.0.2.

In case the Cydia icon on the homescreen is in white with no repositories added, simply add http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 repo in Cydia to get going!

How to: Unlock iOS 4.x (Any Baseband):
Follow the complete step by step guide posted here to unlock iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, on iOS 4, on any baseband using Ultrasn0w 1.1-1.

Step 10: Once you are done with the unlocking and jailbreak process. You can now restore all your settings, apps, music, contacts and photos to the newly installed firmware version 4.0.2 by restoring the backup that you made in Step 2 from iTunes.

If you are an iPhone 3G user, you can follow the complete step by step guide posted hereto jailbreak your iOS device using Redsn0w, and then unlock it using Ultrasn0w on any baseband (including 05.13.04 and 05.12.01).

Download iTunes 9.2.1 for Windows and Mac OS X

Last week Apple released iOS 4.0.2 which was merely a patch to block the recently created http://jailbreakme.com, however, interestingly enough, they did not fix the redsn0w exploit for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G. So if you own an iPhone 3G or an iPod 2G all you need to do is simply use the lastest release of Redsn0w 0.9.5-b5 beta. This release will also hacktivate your iPhone 3G on 4.0.2, if you have not already been activated using iTunes.

If you require an unlock simply install ultrasn0w.

Requirements:

Redsn0w Tool from Dev-Team

Step One : Create a folder on desktop and name it whatever you want, in the following article we named it iHackintosh. Now put all your downloaded files in the iHackintosh folder. Now connect your iPhone to thecomputer and launch RedSn0w from iHackintosh folder.

Step Two : Now here comes the tricky part, when redsn0w ask you to select firmware, browse to iOS 4.0 ipsw instead of iOS 4.0.2

Step Two : Click the Open button to continue.

Step Three : In next Window check the Install Cydia option. You can select / unselect more advanced options like verbose boot, multitasking, wallpaper etc. Once you selected all required options click on next button

Step Four : Now turn off your iPhone but make sure it is still plugged in to USB port. If you satisfies this term then click next to proceed the next step is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.

Step Five : To put your iPhone in to DFU mode follow the onscreen instructions as follows Hold the Power button for 3 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Step Six : If all goes well, and you put your iPhone in DFU mode successfully then the following screen will appear otherwise you will be prompted to do from Step Five.

Step Seven : That’s it after 5 to 8 minute of process you will get your hands on a Jailbreaked iPhone.
