Apple Now Field Testing iOS 5 for App Store Apps

App Store developer FutureTap has just received their first crash report from an iOS 5.0 device indicating that Apple has begun field testing its upcoming operating system. The application apparently crashed in iOS 5 due to the MKUserLocationBreadCrumb. Developer Will Strafach (Chronic) informed 9to5Mac that this API relates to the iOS maps and location functionality. Just received the first iOS 5.0 crash report. MKUserLocationBreadCrumb sounds interesting. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 5.0 at its WWDC 2011 Developer Conference.

Garageband for iPad ported to iPhone 4 [video]

The folks at 9to5Mac received a video and some screenshots of Garageband for iPad running on the iPhone 4 from one of their readers. It was further told that Garageband for iPad was run on iPhone 4 using a hack that requires a jailbroken device. The process involves transferring the GarageBand application with changed metadata to an iPhone 4 via OpenSSH.

This obviously in’t the perfect solution as Garageband isn’t formatted for a slightly lower iPhone 4 resolution but it works well enough. Here are some of the screenshots:

Dev-Team SHAtters an iPod Touch 4G

The Dev-Team recently updated their blog saying that they have begun testing the exploit developed by @pod2g, into a beta version of PwnageTool to get a head start on things.

Those of you with Apple’s new iPod touch 4G, or those of you who bought another recent device after the jailbreakme.com exploit was closed, have probably heard about a brand new exploit called SHAtter. The exploit (and payload) was developed by @pod2g a few months after @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team discovered the crash. That team is hard at work bringing you a brand new tool to make use of the exploit. It’s not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight so please be patient while waiting for any announcements from them.

In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below! It’s all working: customized Preferences to show battery percentage, Cydia, root shell…the works!
