We’ve learned from a tweet from Ripdev saying Hood was made open-source. Ripdev tweeted :

Well for some of the folks this might be an exciting news as they might have found something to work on and carry forward while for others this may just be a regular post. For now all we can say is that we miss Ripdev.

Some are claiming this is a screenshot displayed in the Photos app, and until further proof, only Hexxeh will know the truth. However, it is a cool concept to think of. A heavily garded Apple product such as the iPad running Chrome OS is intruiging and somewhat “conniving.” As of right now, this picture is the only proof we have.

Currently in the iOS Developer Center, iOS Beta 4.2 is available for download for iPad, iPhone, and iPod. An update will come soon on the bug fixes and features that come with 4.2.

Update 1:

The biggest new feature for iPhone, and iPod touch is AirPrint. AirPrint allows users to print via a shared printer. This function is only available for iOS users with mutli-tasking. Therfore, iPhone 3G users will not be able to print.

Along with AirPrint, many minor features are brought to the iPhone and iPod touch. For example, 4.2 Beta will debut a new icon for Apple’s Voice Memos application, a new version of modem firmware, some new font additions for the Notes application, and add support for importing .ics files directly as a way to add events to the native Calendar application.

Update 2:

Many of the features that iPhone and iPod users already enjoy are brought to the iPad with 4.2 Beta. These features include folders and multitasking. Just like on current devices that run iOS 4, users can run tasks from compatible applications in the background, and manage those applications by double-tapping the home button.

4.2 beta for iPad also brings many other updates:

A few days ago, Apple released iTunes update 10.0.1. This is Apple’s first minor update for iTunes 10.  With the update comes a new Ping sidebar, and minor bug fixes. This update is jailbreak safe for 4.1 (confirmed by @iH8sn0w).

iTunes 10.0.1 Bug Fixes:

• Addresses an issue where the iTunes library and playlists appear deleted.
• Fixes an issue where iTunes may unexpectedly quit while interacting with album artwork viewed in another window.
• Fixes an issue that created an incompatibility with some third-party shared libraries.
• Resolves problems with third-party visualizers.
• Addresses picture quality issue where videos change depending on whether the on-screen controls are visible.

Themes have been a very common reason for Jailbreaking. Ever since 1.1.4 I remember having themes. However, if you want to refrain from jailbreaking, or you are waiting for a 4.1 jailbreak (iPhone 4) you can still change your app’s ugly icon using iPhone Explorer.

The program, iPhone Explorer is cross platform, therefore it will work on Windows and Mac. The only components needed is an iPhone, USB cable, computer, and some basic photoshop (or paint) knowledge.

To begin:

Open iPhone Explorer on your PC or Mac, connect your iPhone or iPod and navigate into the app’s folder, located in /Apps/appname.app/appname.app.app (where appname is the name of the app you want to change and device name is the name of your device). In that folder, find the png file for the app, named something like icon@2x.png for an iPhone 4, or Icon.png for iPhone 3GS and below. Back up the original icon (unless you are a daredevil) and replace it with your own icon (you can usually find some good icons around sites like Iconspedia). Make sure the icon is in PNG format and is 114×114 pixels for the iPhone 4, 57×57 for the iPhone 3GS and earlier. After a quick reboot, your icons should be changed!

Note that this only works with 3rd party apps from the App Store, not apps that come on your device. Sadly, jailbreaking is required to change your stock icons.

Step 1: Your device must be jailbroken, you can follow the guide posted here to jailbreak iPhone iPad and iTouch using JailbreakMe 2.0
Step 2:Open Cydia Go to  “Manage –> Sources”
Step 3: Tap on “Edit” and then on “Add”. Type http://apt.iphonemodding.com or  http://repo.benm.at then hit “Add Source”

Some are having issues with Frash and getting it to install right, Try either repo and see which one works for your device.

Step 4: Search for “Frash” install it and reboot you iDevice.

From what we have researched this will work on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touches and iPad 3.2.1. The video below shows Flash running on iPhone 4.

Thanks to Redmondpie, here is a handy guide to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1  on your  iPhone 3G. (NO 3GS Support)

iOS 4.0.1 has been released for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G. While the iPhone 4 and 3GS users will have to wait for a new jailbreak tool, iPhone 3G can go ahead and jailbreak their phone on iOS 4.0.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5. Again, this is strictly for iPhone 3G only. All other iOS based devices will be jailbreakable once Comex releases his new jailbreak tool.

Step 1: Download iOS 4.0.1 for your version of iPhone. Download links are posted here.

Step 2: Update to this latest firmware using the IPSW file you just downloaded via iTunes 9.2.

Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 (download link given below) and point it to iOS 4 (Final Version), and not iOS 4.0.1 firmware file to proceed with the jailbreak.

Step 4: Now select “Install Cydia” and click “Next”.

Step 5: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

Step 6: Connect your device in recovery mode by pressing the Power and buttons continuously.

At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 7: Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, youriPhone and/or iPod touch will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken on the latest iOS 4.0.1 firmware.
