Sony Attempts to Sue GeoHot and fail0verflow
On Tuesday, consumer electronics giant Sony proceeded to file a restraining order against jailbreaker extraordinaire George Hotz – better known in our community as “Geohot,” the famous iPhone hacker. Geohot and his team have been cited by Sony for bypassing “effective technological protective measures” in PlayStation 3 firmware version 3.55. Just days ago, Geohot released a controversial jailbreak which enables PlayStation 3 hackers to run custom packages on the console. Geohot is endeavoring to restore the “Other OS” option pulled from the hugely popular gaming system in 2010.
According to Sony, the restraining order is necessary to stop Geohot from offering the jailbreak. The PS3 maker alleges Geohot and his cohorts are blatantly violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the Computer Fraud Abuse Act. Based on what’s known of the court filing, Sony takes direct aim at Geohot claiming the jailbreaker has “trafficked in circumvention technology, products, services, methods, codes, software tools, [and] devices.”
The main reason Sony is upset? The company doesn’t want illegal (aka pirated) games played on its system. As with all related jailbreak concerns, this case boils down to the almighty dollar. And Sony says Geohot’s antics will continue to cost the company – and ultimately consumers – a pretty penny. Although “Save Geohot” t-shirts are not yet available, someone may want to fire up the printing press because Sony is seriously gunning for Geohot’s head like no one has before.

NitoTV : AppleTV Gets It’s First Jailbroken App
It didn’t take long for our jailbroken AppleTV’s to get rocking with custom Apps. The first app to come to AppleTV is called nitoTV.
nitoTV is a front end application for the popular mplayer media player. Using perian and Apple’s DVDPlayback.framework, users can create playlists and add files or folders of their choice.
So what else does NitoTV do? Well it’s more than just a media player. Supposedly you can even use NitoTV to play nes, snes, genesis, game gear and gameboy advanced roms, view RSS feeds and 3-day Weather forecasts.
At this point, you should be able to play almost any media file type. However, the installation process might have the unexperienced scratching their head. You will be required to SSH the files over to your AppleTV.
While not everything is working 100%, this is still a big step forward for Apps on the AppleTV. NitoTV has tweeted “oh and ill do my best to have a basic nitoTV out soon with at least Weather and RSS feeds working.. other stuff will take longer.”. So expect some updates in the near future for nitoTV.

Greenpois0n Jailbreak Tool Release This Sunday 10/10/10
ModMyi has just informed us that the developers behind the newest jailbreak, greenpois0n, have informed the world of it’s estimated arrival date of October 10th, 2010.
Developer Joshua Hill, aka p0sixninja, recently tweeted “Things have progressed to the point where we don’t expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM”.
