iPhone 4.0 Beta 3 Brings New Features: File Sharing, Widgets & More

Since the release of iPhone 4(.0) Beta 3, there have been some newly released tweaks and features for the iPhone. Let’s start off shall we?

  1. Multitasking

Your probably asking “how is this new?”. Well Multitasking the feature itself isn’t new but the way to close the apps has gotten much more simpler. Apple is very smart when it comes to their Betas, they always have about 5 before the GM (Gold Master) version comes out.

When Beta 1 came out, I hopped on that bandwagon and downloaded it. What I had first seen when I tried out Multitasking was the way to close them, it was pretty annoying you had to do it one app  at a time, and at times I probably had about 10 open at a time with only 5 actually being “tasked” in the dock, remember devs have to code their apps to multitask.

No longer do you have to press, hold and click close for each application. Now you simply press and hold the icon of one of the many applications you’re currently running, and you’ll be given the option to close whatever ones you wish in rapid succession.

Think of deleting application on your iPhone.

2. File Sharing

Well I won’t lie this kind of had me suprised too. Apple is now allowing you to share files on your iPhone. It’s like a drag and drop type service and done in iTunes. It doesn’t work as of yet. But I’m sure by 4.0 this feature will be up and running. How many of you are excited for this? Now when I do screenshots on my phone for articles it won’t be such of a hassle. Thanks Apple.

3. Media Player Widgets

Well isn’t this feature lovely. I don’t know if you guys forgot but multitasking has taken the place of the double click button, this goes for iPod owners too.

Well now when you go too select another application simply swipe to the left and you got a widget for playing music. It comes with the standard play/pause, next, backward. Along with an icon in case you might actually wanna go and dive in for a specific song.

Now we did get the best of both worlds. I know that people were in fact questioning about how they were going to get their lovely pop-up control feature back.

Once again, Thank you Apple.

4. Orientation Lock

Looks like there’s no need for NoRotation tweak in Cydia anymore. Apple has now added a orientation lock button that you can tap to prevent it from rotating. To enable orientation lock, you simply have to fire up the multitasking interface, swipe to the left and click the Portrait Lock icon. Nice, no?

Let me know either through Twitter, on my personal twitter, or through the sites twitter on what you think about these new features.

[Video Tutorial] How To Jailbreak Any Device with Spirit Jailbreak 3.1.3

First off, download Spirit. OS X users can download it from SpiritJB.com, ModMyi.com, or the MediaFire.com miror.

You’ll see the Spirit icon on your desktop.

Make sure your iPad is on, in normal mode, and connected to the computer via your USB cable. Open Spirit – it will see your device and show it’s ready (Spirit works on any activated/hacktivated iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2).

Press… you guessed it, Jailbreak. For about 30 seconds you’ll see Spirit tell you it’s jailbreaking.

Your iPad will show a “Restore Complete” screen (don’t worry, it’s not deleting any of your info/content), and Spirit will show Jailbreak Complete!

The iPad will restart, and for a minute or two you will see the lovely art made by OPK while Spirit is extracting the bootstrap package and finishing its work.

This video is a tutorial on how to use “Spirit” Jailbreak by @comex. It’s simple just like blackra1n but much faster.

If any questions, drop a comment, or for faster response send me a tweet on twitter. @iRockish @jailbreaknews

Congratulations! You’re now the proud owner of a jailbroken iPad.

MuscleNerd Demos Sending SMS Messages From An iPad 3G

Well the iPad 3G is indeed as hackable as the iPad Wi-Fi but the 3G iPad has a nice little feature that some people may find useful and that’s network capability.

The SMS messages were sent through a raw AT+CMGS command sent to the iPad Baseband. Why? Well simply because the Messages.app that runs perfectly on the iPhone doesn’t run properly on the iPad…yet.

In this demo a modified T-Mobile SIM card modified to a MicroSim was put into the iPad. The SIM card that came with the iPad doesn’t allow SMS messages.

MuscleNerd demos the SMS messaging in the video through the commands, and send them to the iPhone. Now while you won’t see the text that ends up on the iPhone is because it’s in a .txt file that then gets opened on the iPhone.
